Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ coach, Randy Waldrum has promised a better show from his players in Tuesday’s second international friendly against Canada, who won the first match between both sides 2-0 on Friday.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Waldrum admitted that his players struggled during the game, a situation which he blamed mostly on stage fright, as they started well but eventually toiled against Bev Priestman’s side.
The American football tactician blamed lack of composure for the defeat as his side capitulated, despite holding the hosts to a goalless first half at BC Place in Vancouver, the Falcons leaked two second-half goals in defeat.
Jessie Fleming opened scoring in the 51st minute and Vanessa Gilles doubled the advantage in the 72nd, following which spirited efforts by the African champions were not good enough to get them at least a consolation goal.
Rather than blame his players for the loss, Waldrum simply opted to look on the bight side, as the praised his side’s performance while explaining where his lasses got it wrong against Priestman’s side.
Waldrum submitted: “I think that carried us at least through the first half until we lost a bit of that composure in the second half.
“I think we had a really good start to the game, we had a really composed start to the game. We had to play some young players as well.
“We were also missing the likes of Vivian, Ohale at the back. So, we can in some ways justify that wasn’t a full squad.
“For me, the girls feel right now that they can play with anyone in the world. I think this will make us better.
“We’re also smart enough to recognize that there are some areas we need to improve in before we’re going to be in that elite category.”
