SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen has been confirmed to miss the next two crucial matches of his Italian Serie A club, due to the shoulder injury he copped in action with the Super Eagles on Friday, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although varying reports have emerged about the status of Osimhen, following a dislocated shoulder he got after failing awkwardly in the second half of Friday’s 2-2 draw with Sierra Leone at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, the verdict from Naples is that the youngster will miss two weeks of action.
In essence, the former VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, Sporting Charleroi of Belgium and Lille Metropole of France attacker will not be available for next weekend’s Serie A clash against AC Milan and UEFA Europa League fixture versus Rijeka of Crotia.
Being without the 21-year-old Osimhen is a big blow for Napoli, whose media unit had quickly celebrated the striker’s goal against Sierra Leone but kept mum on the shoulder injury he copped soon after, as they expressed hope that it would not be as serious as it looked on television.
However, their worst fears have now been confirmed and the injured shoulder means time out for Osimhen, who has scored four goals for Nigeria in the 2022 AFCON qualifiers, but he has only two for Napoli, who are third on the Serie A table with 14 points from seven matches, three behind log leaders Milan.
Osimhen has already headed back to his base in Italy, after being ruled out of the Eagles’ reverse fixture against Sierra Leone on Tuesday, which means Nigeria’s coach, Gernot Rohr will turn again to Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu to lead the attack in Freetown, and probably redeem his image, after fumbling in a recent friendly against Algeria..
