A build-up match arranged by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the Super Eagles against Cotton Sport FC of Cameroon has been confirmed to hold this Friday in Garoua.

Megasportsarena.com gathered that the game will hold in the same city where the Eagles will play their first match of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations against Egypt on Tuesday.

Heading into that game, the Eagles flew out of their pre-competition training base in Abuja on Wednesday to Cameroon’s capital, Yaoundé, from where they will connect to Garoua.

The Eagles’ build-up game against the 15-time Cameroonian champions Cotonsport will start 4pm on Friday behind closed doors at the practice pitch of Stade de Roumde in Garoua, four days to Nigeria’s opening Group D clash against Egypt.

It will also be two days after the Eagles’ arrival at their base camp, following their flight that was billed to jet out of Abuja at 8pm on Wednesday, some 24 hours after they were hosted by sports minister, Chief Sunday Dare at a a send-forth dinner in Abuja.

Dare stressed that he expects the Eagles to win Nigeria’s third AFCON title, adding: “Three times we have been champions of Africa by winning the Africa Cup of Nations, that was in 1980, 1994 and 2013.

“Many other times we have ended as losing finalists and bronze medalists but we want you to strike gold in Cameroon on the 6th of February, 2022 when the tournament’s final match will be played.

“We have followed your preparations for this tournament and have seen the challenges that you have faced with the late release from your clubs, the Covid-19 protocols, injuries and other factors.

“We urge you not to be deterred by these and rather see these obstacles as stepping stones to your success and glory.

“We are also appealing to you to demonstrate that Nigerian spirit of determination, focus, resilience, discipline and conquest on and off the pitch.

“You have to believe in yourselves, be confident in your own abilities and show trust in your coaches and officials.”
