Super Eagles’ Crew Wants To Adjust Provisional Squad List For AFCON

Nigeria’s array of national team players and prospecting ones will be full of prayers throughout this week, as some of them may not have their names in the final squad of the Super Eagles to next month’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Megasportsarena.com reports that this follows a confirmation by the technical crew that they are looking into the possibility of adjusting the provisional list that was dropped in November by erstwhile coach, Gernot Rohr.

Wirth Rohr now sacked and former skipper-turned-gaffer, Augustine Eguavoen taking over on an interim basis, moves are being made to get another class of players top prosecute the continental soccer showpiece in Cameroon.

This much has been confirmed by Eguavoen himself, as he disclosed that a request has been sent to Confederation of African Football (CAF) for an adjustment to Nigeria’s provisional squad to the upcoming Cup of Nations.

The former defender, who coached the Eagles to win bronze at AFCON 2006 in Egypt, disclosed that he is seeking approval from CAF to modify the list submitted in November, but he would have to go ahead with what is on offer if the request is not approved by the continent’s football governing body.

Eguavoen revealed: “The provisional list has been submitted long ago but we’ll try to see how we can probably bring few on board if it’s allowed, if it’s permitted.

“But, if it’s not permitted, we’ll still work with the list that has been dropped with CAF and I think we can still get an excellent team from that list.

“If it’s permitted to alter the list I will bring in two or three names. I have to speak with the Federation first and then they will contact CAF if it is possible.”
