Nigeria’s under-20 national team, Flying Eagles’ former attacker, Stanley Ohawuchi has been forced to make an unceremonious exit from Al Qadasiya of Saudi Arabia, as he has been released after four years with the Middle East club.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the 31-year-old former Heartland of Owerri attacker will now seek pastures new in the summer transfer window, after his contract came to an end on May 31 and he was sternly informed that it would not be renewed.
It marks the climax to a turbulent two years, in which Ohawuchi played on loan at Ajman Club, which happens to be another team in the Saudi Super League, only or him to put up spirited efforts in the past season, as he netted four goals and provided 15 assists for Al Qadasiya.
However, against all expectations, the hierarchy at Al Qadasiya stated clearly that they had no intention of offering a fresh contract to Ohawuchi, who previously played in Egypt with Zamalek and Wadi Degla as well as for some modest teams in Spain and Malta.
It marks another downturn for the dark-skinned petit attacker, who played for Nigeria at the 2009 FIFA U20 World Cup in Egypt, following which he attracted immense interest from North Africa, Asia and across the Gulf Region.
Back in 2015, Wadi Degla of Egypt slammed a two million Dollar price tag on him, after the president of their local rivals, Zamalek approached them for the striker’s signature, as the bubble forward, who earlier played for Sliema Wanderers of Malta, was then top scorer in the Egyptian league with six goals from five matches.
At that point in time, Zamalek’s president, Mortada Mansour contacted Wadi Degla’s chairman, Maged Samy over a deal for Ohawuchi and was told the transfer would cost around two million Dollars.
He then joined Al-Qadisiyah in 2017, after excelling during a season-long loan at Zamalek from Wadi Degla, as he emerged the Cairo-based side’s top scorer in the CAF Champions League, with three goals and an assist but moved to the Saudi League on a $1.3m transfer fee.
Ohawuchi moved to Al-Qadisiyah on high, as the deal marked a huge rise if market value for the spritely lad, who joined Zamalek from Wadi Degla in August 2016 for $400,000 with an option to buy, but all that has now ended in an anti-climax for him.
