A total of ten Nigerian-born players have been invited to various levels of England’s national tams, with Manchester United’s Shola Shoretire, Chelsea’s Faustino Anjorin and Aston Villa’s Carney Chukwuemeka top of the lot.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that, also among the lads of Nigerian descent that ill don England’s colours in the coming week are Folarin Balogun of Arsenal, who has been invited for the first time to the under-21 squad for the first time.
The report out of Queensland reveals that Balogun will be joined in England’s youth squad by PSV Eindhoven of Netherlands rave of the moment, Nonso ‘Noni’ Madueke, as they prepare to face Romania in a friendly on Friday.
While Balogun and Madueke are also on course to feature in an U-21 European Championship qualifier with Kosovo on September 7, Anjorin and Arsenal midfielder, Miguel Azeez have been called up to the England under-20 squad for yet another friendly against Romania.
Azeez has previously been invited by England’s youth teams but this is the first time he gets a call-up to the under-20 team, while Celtic of Scotland goalkeeper, Tobi Oluwayemi has been named in the under-19 squad for upcoming fixtures against Italy and Germany.
He will be joined by Daniel Oyegoke, Carney Chukwuemeka, Samuel Edozie and Shola Shoretire, while Fulham midfielder, Michael Olakigbe has been included in the under-18 squad that will go out for a five-day training camp in Wales.
The full roll call of the Nigerian-born players invited by England for various age categories is: Folarin Balogun (Arsenal) – U21, Noni Madueke (PSV Eindhoven ) – U21, Miguel Azeez (Arsenal) – U20, Faustino Anjorin (Chelsea) – U20, and Tobi Oluwayemi (Celtic) – U19.
Others are Daniel Oyegoke (Brentford) – U19, Carney Chukwuemeka (Aston Villa) – U19, Sam Edozie (Manchester City) – U19, Shola Shoretire (Manchester United) – U19, and Michael Olakigbe (Fulham) – U18.
