Manchester United of England youngster, Shola Shoretire has been tipped to become the next Nigerian-born player to join Watford, megasportsarena.com reports.
The Hornets have a long history of Nigerian players in their squad, dating back to the days of Odion Jude Ighalo, Isaac Success, Tom Dele-Bashiru and Joseph Hungbo at Vicarage Road, plus the current deals they have with William Troost-Ekong, Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis and Oghenekaro Etebo.
Shoretire could now extend that uncanny tradition one step further, following a recommendation by Watford captain, Troy Deeney of a loan deal for the fair-skinned lad, who is knocking on the senior team at Old Trafford, where he has played since the age of nine, after a switch from their local rivals, Manchester City.
Deeney has now named Shoretire among his top six most exciting prospects in English football, alongside fellow-Nigerian-born whiz-kid, Carney Chukwuemeka of Aston Villa, as well as Joe Bellingham (Birmingham City), Ben Johnson (West Ham), Cole Palmer (Manchester City) and Cameron Archer (Aston Villa).
Great expectations continue building round Shoretire in the last couple of years, with the winger excelling for the United’s youth teams and the England U19 international, who was the youngest to feature in the UEFA Youth League, when he made his debut aged 14 years and 314 days, is now being tipped for a loan deal in January.
Although his record was first broken by Borussia Dortmund of Germany’s Youssoufa Moukoko and then by the current holder, Sverre Halseth Nypan from FC Midtjylland of Denmark, Shoretire continues to be regarded in high esteem, to the extent that Deeney has pinpointed two characteristics he believes would make Shoretire an outstanding loan signing by Watford.
Deeney told British tabloid, The Sun: “Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rated him highly and gave him three first-team appearances last term, just after he had turned 17.
“Ralf Rangnick gave him another run-out in the Champions League against Young Boys but Shoretire could really make a name for himself with a Championship loan move.
“When a United kid comes on loan to your club, they always seem well-grounded human beings and confident footballers without being arrogant. I hear Shoretire has the same characteristics.”
