Texas Tech’s Ruth Usoro won the women’s triple jump during Sunday’s final day of the three-day Big 12 track and field championships at the Fuller Track Complex, Megasportsarena.com reports.

In her three-year career at Tech, Usoro has won Big 12 titles four times in the triple jump and three times in the long jump.

The Red Raiders scored 24 points in the triple jump with a 1-2-3 finish from Ruth Usoro, Ruta Lasmane and another Nigerian, Onaara Obamuwagun. That was after they’d gotten 22 points Saturday night in the triple jump with a 1-2-5 showing from Monae’ Nichols, Usoro and Lasmane.

“It’s a favor from God,” Usoro said, “and it’s blessing. Because we’ve always prayed for this. We’ve worked hard, and we put God first in everything we’ve done.

“I’m just grateful for this team and I’m so impressed and humbled that God would take us to place first, second and third in the triple jump. I’m just thankful, and I’m proud of my teammates.”

Usoro won the seventh Big 12 title (four triple jump, three long jump) in her three-year Tech career, counting indoor and outdoor championships.

It was also a great experience for other Nigerians at the Meet.

Imaobong Nse Uko teamed up with Mariah Ayers, Kavia Francis and Morake to win the gold medal in the women’s 4×400 metres with a time of 3:26.92 and set a new meet record.

Rhasidat Adeleke also made history with the Texas’ 4×100-metres relay squad comprising Julien Alfred, Kevona Davis and Kynnedy Flannel as they ran a meet record 42.35 to take the gold.
