Aston Villa face losing Carney Chukwuemeka for ‘training compensation’ with Barcelona involved in the race for his signature, Megasportsarena.com understands.
According to BirminghamLive, Chukwuemeka has entered the final year of his contract at Villa Park and suitors are in no short supply. Premier League sides Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United have all been linked with Chukwuemeka, who has thus far rejected the offer of a new deal at Villa.
There are several interested clubs abroad too, and Barcelona are among them. It is claimed Barcelona have ‘serious interest’ in the midfielder and could pursue a deal when he becomes available for a minimal fee in January.
Chukwuemeka could negotiate a move to Barcelona in January, before joining in summer 2023 at the end of his contract, and the La Liga club would only have to compensate Villa by covering training costs up to his 19th birthday in October.
FIFA’s rules on the status and transfers of players, as of March 2022, state: “The training compensation payable is calculated by taking the training costs of the new club multiplied by the number of years of training, in principle from the calendar year of the player’s 12th birthday.”
Barcelona is a category one club, therefore Villa would receive the maximum possible training compensation. Training costs between the age of 12 and 15 is estimated to be worth €10,000 per year. It is €75,000 per year between the player’s 16th and 19th birthday.
The total training compensation Barcelona would need to pay Villa for Chukwuemeka is therefore estimated to be €340,000, which equates to roughly £287,000. Chukwuemeka recently starred for England’s under-19 side as they won the European Championships. The Villa midfielder top scored for his country with four goals in the tournament.
He joined Villa from Northampton Town at the age of 12 and made his first Premier League start against Brentford when he was just 17. Chukwuemeka made 12 appearances in the English top flight last season.
