Belgian champions Club Brugge have announced the signing of Raphael Onyedika on a five year contract for €10m (a record for an FCM academy product), Megasportsarena.com reports.
Given that he only started playing Superliga football last season this is a rise to prominence and a great fee for a hugely talented midfielder. It also proves that the €6m from AC Milan was viewed as insultingly low.
The Italian side were leading the race for the promising Nigerian midfielder but an ridiculous amount tabled by the club was subbed by FC Midtjylland.
Club Brugge manager Carl Hoefkens reveals he can not wait to welcome Onyedika to the Jan Breydel Stadium.
“I hope to see him (Onyedika) very soon with us, I just want to work with the best players possible. I know he’s quality, so I’m looking forward to it,” Hoefkens said.
The 21 year old Nigerian was the Danish Superliga Young Player of the Season with FC Midtjylland in the 2021/22 campaign.
The 21-year-old defensive midfielder who can also play centrally in the defence had been on the radar of many top European clubs, including Serie A champions AC Milan.
Onyedika joins Club Brugge from Danish side FC Midtjylland where he had been since 2019 as a youth player, before being promoted to the senior team in 2020.
