Slavia Prague of Czech Republic striker, Peter Olayinka has revealed that he is happy and excited being in the Super Eagles’ camp at the Africa Cup of Nations and is now looking forward to playing against Guinea Bissau on Wednesday.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, heading into the 8pm kick-off in Garoua, Cameroon, the product of 36 Lion FC of Lagos, who previously starred for KAA Gent of Belgium, declared that he is eagerly anticipating his first match at AFCON 2021.
He pushed aside any disappointment at his non-inclusion in the Eagles’ first two matches at the ongoing continental soccer showpiece in Cameroon, as he had not even been in the squad until he got the late call up.
The dark-skinned lad went on to confess that being in camp alone is a dream come true for him, which makes him happy and excited, but he would love to cap it with an appearance this mid-week against Guinea Bissau.
He added that the entire Eagles’ squad is in high spirits ahead of the game and the 26-year-old lad, who is competing with Taiwo Awoniyi, Umar Sadiq, Kelechi Iheanacho and Henry Onyekuru for a spot upfront, confessed that he would love to play the game at Roumdé Adjia Stadium
Although he acknowledged that the winning aura rolling through the Eagles’ camp is evocative on a championship-winning side, Olayinka opted to stay cautious over their chances of winning the competition at the end of the race.
Olayinka concluded: “We are taking it step by step one game after the other. I know by God’s grace we are going to get it. This is why we train.
“We are learning everyday. I feel very happy, I feel excited, because it is a dream come true. I was called up in the last minute, I didn’t expect it but I was very happy, really excited.
“I am still waiting till Wednesday to be sure if I am going to play. If I have the opportunity to play, I am going to give my best.”
