The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the Nest of Champions, Uyo will host the 2022 CAF Confederation Cup final scheduled for Friday, May 20, 2022, Megasportsarena.com reports.
This was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant on Sports to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Paul Bassey on Monday.
Bassey hinted that FIFA Pitch Consultant, Jorge Manuel Palmacuder had arrived Uyo on Sunday to superintendent over the perfection of the pitch and training ground of the stadium.
The Akwa United boss said that with the development, the stadium will be closed to all activities until after the game next week, while also informing that a meeting will be held today between the FIFA Pitch Consultant and Akwa Ibom State Football Association (FA), Stadium Manager, Julius Berger as well as Ministry staff to fine tune activities within the stadium.
It could be recalled that CAF officials visited the stadium recently to inspect the state of the sporting facilities.
Aside the stadium, the CAF delegation had also inspected the Victor Attah International Airport, Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort and Ibom Specialist Hospital among others in line with CAF standard for host city.
Orlando Pirates of South Africa, TP Mazembe of Congo DR, RSB Berkane and Al Ahly Tripoli will slug it in the semi finals to decide the Uyo bound finalists.
