Victor Osimhen will be available for tonight’s UEFA Europa League match against Barcelona although he didn’t train with his Napoli teammates yesterday because of knee issues.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the Nigeria striker didn’t take part in the last training session before their trip to Barcelona because of an overload on his right knee, but club medics say there’s nothing worry about although he will be assessed on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, Napoli head coach Luciano Spalletti disclosed that Osimhen did not train as a precaution: “It is not a muscular problem, he just had a slightly swollen knee on Tuesday so as a precaution we decided to rest him and will evaluate his condition on Thursday morning. He finished Tuesday’s training session without problems.”
Osimhen has partially recovered from a cheekbone injury and is playing with a protective mask after remaining out of action for nearly two months.
Manchester United loanee Axel Tuanzebe didn’t travel with the team because of an injury and the same is true of Matteo Politano, Stanislav Lobotka and Hirving Lozano. Luciano Spalletti is short of options up front and it remains to be seen who will be the starting right winger given Politano and Lozano’s injuries. Adam Ounas and Dries Mertens are available, but Eljif Elmas is also an option.
