Osimhen Included In Napoli’s Squad For Monday’s Fixture Versus Bologna

SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen may be in for another round of the recent club versus country row he was engulfed in, as his club’s doctors have sensationally cleared him to play for the team this Monday in the Italian Serie A.

Megasportsarena.com reports that, in contrast with the Naples-based club’s earlier insistence that Osimhen would not be fit to play until late February or early match, they are now set to line him out against Bologna in their latest league match.

This brings back to the fore speculation that the covid-19 report that eventually ruled Osimhen out of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon might have been fabricated by Napoli in order to force the youngster out of Nigeria’s squad.

Conspiracy theorists had been wary back then why the negative report coincided with struggles over Osimhen’s clearance or not for AFCON, but it was exactly a year after he was reportedly down with the same ailment.

Just as it had been the previous year, Osimhen was said to have contracted the disease while celebrating his birthday in Lagos, but Napoli went on to splash the news via social media without indicating where the player was to spend isolation.

The ripple effects of that saga are bound to resurrect, now that Osimhen has been cleared to play away to Bologna this Monday at Dall’Ara Stadium.

Expectations are high among Napoli fans that Osiomhen will even get to play some minutes of the matchday 22 Serie A game, as the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer is one of only two strikers picked for the tie.

Consequently, the former Ultimate Strikers of Lagos, VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, Sporting Charleroi of Belgium and Lille Metropole of France hitman is on the verge of a most dramatic comeback, as he has been involved in full squad training with his colleagues since Friday.

Osimhen was spotted in photographs splashed across Napoli’s official website, as the club’s media unit celebrated his efforts in the drills and his teammates were seeing warming up to him with smiles in the background.

The report by Napoli’s media disclosed at length: “After the match against Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia, Napoli resumed at the Konami Training Center (and) Osimhen did the whole session as a group.

“The Azzurri are preparing the match against Bologna scheduled for Monday 17 January at 18.30 for the 22nd matchday of Serie A.

“Work in the gym for those who went to the pitch while the rest of the group, after a first phase of activation and strength circuit, played on a small pitch and practiced shots on goal.”
