SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen continued his majestic goals scoring form in the Italian Serie A, while Ademola Lookman was also on song for Leicester City of England and Joe Aribo struck for Glasgow Rangers of Scotland.
Osimhen showed the way on an evening he equalled a Nigerian goals scoring record set by Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins (Obagol), while Lookman and Aribo both ended long standing personal droughts.
Megasportsaerena.com reports that Aribo’s goal came in his side’s 4-0 thrashing of St Mirren 4-0 in a Scottish Premiership clash at SMISA Stadium in Paisley, Scotland on Sunday afternoon.
While Aribo went the full ninety, Leon Aderemi Balogun was a non-playing substitute and Calvin Bassey was rested ahead of Thursday’s clash against Braga.
Four minutes into the second half, Roofe was able to score his first hat-trick in Rangers colours, after which Aribo netted the pick of the goals with a curling 18-yard drive that went into the far corner.
It was Aribo’s first goal for Rangers in ten matches across all competitions, with his last strike coming against Dundee United on February 20.
In England, Lookman netted for Leicester on Sunday afternoon in a 2-1 win over visiting Crystal Palace at King Power Stadium, where he pounced on a through pass from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
The former Charlton Athletic, Everton and Fulham winger made hay in the 39th minute, when he cut inside and unleashed a shot past Vicente Guaita to the bottom left corner for his seventh goal in all competitions this season.
It was, however, Lookman’s first goal since February 20, when he netted in a 2-1 loss of The Foxes away to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Lookman left the game for Harvey Barnes with 14 minutes left on the clock, at the same time Kelechi Iheanacho went on in place of Zambian striker, Patson Daka.
However, Leicester continue to be without Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi, who has been ruled out of the season through injury.
In Italy, Osimhen’s 16th goal of the season could not save Napoli from losing 3-2 against visiting Fiorentina at Diego Maradona Stadium, where he also got an assist for his side’s first goal.
Fiorentina went ahead in the 29th minute when Nicolas Gonzalez struck to open the score. Napoli equalized in the 58th minute when Dries Mertens – with an assist from the Nigerian – found the back of the net with a low drive.
Fiorentina restored the lead in the 66th minute when French international Jonathan Ikone scored a minute after joining the action, with an assist by Gonzalez.
Fiorentina added the third when Arthur Cabral found the back of the net with an assist from Morocco’s midfielder, Youssef Maleh.
Napoli continued to fight and in the 84th minute, Osimhen scored their second, with Mario Rui providing the assist for the Super Eagles forward.
Osimhen continues to be a dependable goalscorer for the Italian outfit as he recently scored twice against Verona and Udinese on March 13 and 19, respectively.
In Belgium, Joshua Orobosa Zirkzee scored and provided an assist for RSC Anderlecht in a 3-2 road win against Kortrijk, taking his goal involvement for the season to 27 (17 goals, 10 assists) in all competitions.
The Netherlands U21 international scored to make it 1-1 after the home team took the lead and set up Anderlecht’s third goal in the 57th minute.
Europa Conference League surprise package Bodo/Glimt defeated Sandefjord 2-1 in a Norwegian Eliteserien clash at Release Arena (Sandefjord).
Bodo/Glimt star Victor Boniface opened his account for the season in the domestic championship in the thirteenth minute.
Still in the Norwegian top-flight. Fred Friday netted what eventually proved to be consolation goals as Strømsgodset were defeated 3-1 by Molde.
