Barcelona Femeni of Spain attacker, Asisat Oshoala (Super Zee) has been left out of her club’s pre-season training camp due to an alleged coronavirus infection, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although the club is yet to make any official announcement to confirm or deny the development, a report out of Spain indicates that the Nigerian female national team captain will be sidelined for at least 10 days.
The report by Barcelona-based newspaper, L’Esportiu disclosed that the four-time Afircan Women Footballer of The Year tested positive for COVID-19 on her return to her club’s base, hence the need for her to immediately go into quarantine.
Barca and still keeping mum on the report and failed to explain Oshoala’s absence, as she was not listed for their pre-season training camp in Algorfa, where they will play a couple of test matches ahead of the new season.
It is another setback for the dark-skinned lass from Ikorodu in Lagos State, as she has been in and out of speculation about a likely exit from Camp Nou in the summer transfer window, but she pushed it all aside to make the best of her holiday in Nigeria.
The Super Falcons;’ skipper was last month on holidays in Lagos, where she conducted a football clinic for women, sponsored a para-soccer competition and donated wheelchairs to over 50 disabled persons.
The report out of Spain added: “Barcelona coach Jonatan Giráldez will be without Nigerian striker, Asisat Oshoala, for the team’s pre-season game against Elche on August 4.
“The Super Falcons captain was left out of Barcelona women’s training camp in Algorfa, where the squad will stay for 10 days preparing for the new season.
“The European champions, while announcing the squad for the friendly game in Alicante, were silent on the whereabouts of their star striker despite not being listed among the 23 players travelling for the match.
“The club announced that Ingrid Engen, Andrea Pereira and Cata Coll, who were not included in the travelling party due to various injuries, will join the team later but kept mum on the whereabouts of Oshoala.”
