Onyekuru, Olayinka State Different Angles To Nations Cup Expectations

Two late invitees to Nigeria’s camp ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, as Slavia Prague of Czech Republic winger, Peter Olayinka is wary of the threat posed by Egypt and Senegal, but Olympiakos of Greece attacker, Henry Onyekuru believes the Super Eagles have enough quality to scale through.

Megasportsarena.com reports that Onyekuru is of a view that the fire burning through the players to make the country proud will see them perform wonders in Cameroon, but Olayinka believes that Egypt and Senegal could pose problems for the Eagles, because they have strong teams.

Nigeria start off their campaign against Egypt before fixtures against Sudan and Guinea-Bissau, ahead of which caution is the word from Olayinka, who found himself on the roster for the tournament in Cameroon following the withdrawal of Watford of England ace, Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis.

Olayinka, who promised that he will give his best if saddled with the responsibility of being the Eagles’ main striker, confessed: “I think Senegal and Egypt are really strong but of course we can defeat them, there is nothing special.

“I feel so excited, I am very happy to be part of the squad and now everyone is looking forward to this tournament, I’m really looking forward to this.

“I’ve always been giving my best in my club so they should expect more. I will give my everything because I want to make my country proud.

“Everyone is getting ready, we are preparing for this tournament and I believe the guys will give their very best.”

In a slightly different approach, Onyekuru chose to look on the bright side, as the former KAS Eupen and RSC Anderlecht of Belgium, Everton of England, AS Monaco of France and Galatasaray of Turkey enthused that zeal and determination will see the Eagles through.

While Olayinka was called up in place of Dennis, who Watford refused to release for the competition, Onyekuru got his spot by virtue of the covid-19 infection and face injury that hit SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen.

Onyekuru told MTN Nigeria’s We Move With Super Eagles: “To me every team is the same, it is football you never know. A smaller team can come out to be the champion. I’m just after my team Nigeria.

“I believe every player wants to be here, thanks to the coach. It’s always a good feeling coming back to represent the country, you know it is a great honour.

“Like always I’m here to give hundred percent and to help the team in anyway, pitch or outside the pitch it doesn’t matter, just give hundred percent. The best games as usual.

“Try to keep it hundred percent to give everything we have on the pitch and hopefully by the grace of God to come back with the Cup. To me, I believe there is no pressure.

“We just have to give hundred percent and respect every team. It doesn’t matter if it is Egypt, Sudan, the same spirit inside and outside the pitch and just listen to the coach.”
