Super Eagles’ out-of-favour winger, Henry Onyekuru has missed out on a possible full transfer to Galatasaray of Turkey due to excessive demands made by his parent club, AS Monaco of France.
Although Onyekuru had a paltry outing in his third spell back at Gala, as he failed to live up to his previous too billings while on loan from Monaco last term, he appeared ready to take a full contract with the Turkish Super Lig side.
Megasportsarena.com gatheerd that talks were already on with Galatasaray’s top shots with Onyekuru’s agents, until terms put on the table by Monaco were considered impossible to accept by the Istanbul-based side.
Gala subsequently pulled out of a possible deal with Monaco, thereby leaving room for their Istanbul rivals, Besiktas and Fernebahce, to chase the same player.
However, officials at Galatasaray appear nonplussed about losing Onyekuru, as he did not get it right last season in his third stint with their team, such that paying a hefty price for him was not even in the picture.
A report by Turkish publication, Ajansspor noted that, though Monaco splashed 13 million euro on Onyekuru to buy him outright from Everton of England, the Istanbul side are now seeking more than double that amount on his transfer, with two sell-on clauses added to the deal.
The report adds: “Galatasaray pulled out of signing Henry Onyekuru on a permanent basis because they would have had to pay AS Monaco half of the profit they will receive should they sell him again.
“This means that the 4.3 Million Euros Galatasaray will pay Monaco for Onyekuru was just the first part of the deal.
“The second part of the deal was that if the Turkish club subsequently sold the winger for more than five Million Euros, Monaco will be entitled to 50% of the profit from that sale.
“So, if Galatasaray should go on to sell Onyekuru for nine Million Euros, they would have had to pay Monaco an additional two Million Euros, which is half of their profit of four Million Euros.
“The newly elected leaders of ‘Gala’ decided against such a commitment. The Super Eagles ace is reported to be in Istanbul with his agent to now discuss a transfer to Galatasaray local rivals, Besiktas and Fenerbahçe.”
