Brentford of England midfielder, Frank Ogochukwu Onyeka wowed the English Premier League on Saturday, and his performance in his side’s victory over Burnley left an impression on Black Stars’ of Ghana’s technical adviser, Chris Hughton.
The Black Stars’ gaffer, who will be in the line of fire when the Ghanaians battle Nigeria on March 25 and 29 in two crucial final World Cup qualification fixtures, was not in the stands to spy on Onyeka, but to analyse the game for TV.
Onyeka, though, ended up catching Hughton’s attention, after stepping into the fray as a second half substitute, as The Bess gained back-to-back EPL wins for the very first time with a 2-0 victory at Brentford Community Stadium.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Ivan Toney nodded home a brilliant delivery from Christian Eriksen to open the scoring with five minutes to go and the number 17 sealed the win when he converted a spot kick in stoppage time.
Onyeka was sent on by Brentford’s coach, Thomas Frank to protect his side’s lead and The Bees were able to ease their relegation fears, going nine points clear of the bottom three with nine matches left in the season.
In the process, the former FC Mydttyjland of Denmark ace got sweet words from Hughton, born to an Irish mother and Ghanaian father, who will provide advice to Ghana’s crew in the upcoming qualifiers against Nigeria.
This was despite the former Newcastle United and Brighton coach had only limited time to catch details of Onyeka’s game, as the product of FC Ebedei of Shagamu only entered the game as a 90th minute substitute.
