Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu may have finally resigned himself to spending yet another season with the club he joined two terms ago from FC Midtjylland of Denmark, as he stressed that he is still 1005 a member of the Belgian Jupiler League club’s squad.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, although the summer transfer mill has been abuzz all along about an impending exit from Genk for the Belgian League’s highest goals scorer last season, the Super Eagles’ giant has now come out to douse the tale.
The reigning Belgian Pro League Golden Boot holder, Ebony Boot winner for best African and overall most valuable player of the past season, who was also on fire with the Super Eagles, insists he remains committed to a third season at Genk.
This is in contrast with repeated reports linking him with West Ham United, Arsenal, Watford and Leicester City of England as well as Olympique Lyon of France, as many clubs are obviously falling over one another in a scramble to get a piece of his lethal form for their squads.
However, amidst speculation that his many suitors have been put off by Genk’s asking price of €30m on his transfer this summer, Onuachu is now talking about loyalty to his current employers.
This is despite of many tongues that were sent wagging when he was omitted from Genk’s line-up for their Belgian Pro League opening clash of the season with KV Oostende last week and, in his ominous absence, his side suffered a 4-3 defeat.
Genk’s coach, John van den Brom admitted at that point that Onuachu was not ready for action, hence the decision to leave him out of the squad that faced Oostende, but the 27-year-old star returned to action against Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine in the UEFA Champions League.
He went on to play both legs of the UCL qualification fixture, even scoring in the first leg 2-1 loss suffered by his side and, though he could not save them from losing the reverse fixture by the same scoreline earlier this week, Onuachu is using both matches as symbols of his loyalty to Genk.
Onuachu told Voetbalnieuws: “I just played a game. That shows that I am still 100 percent at Genk. I try to have an impact on the team and just stay here for the time being.”
