Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan shattered the 100m hurdles world record in Eugene, Oregon to set the world alight, Megasportsarena.com reports.
Amusan produced two incredible 100m hurdles runs on final day of the 2022 world athletics championships on Sunday.
The 25-year-old Nigerian set a new World and won the global title, and she did it in fewer than two hours.
Amusan ran a staggering 12.12 seconds in her semi-final to beat Kendra Harrison’s old best by 0.08 sec – smashing her personal best time by nearly three-tenths of a second.
The Nigerian, 25, ran even faster in the final – but her 12.06 was ruled ineligible by an illegal tailwind.
In a tight battle for the silver medal, Jamaica’s Britany Anderson clocked 12.23 seconds, beating Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn by a mere 0.005 seconds.
Amusan, who had already run a new African record of 12.40 seconds in Saturday’s heats, said: “I believe in my abilities but I was not expecting a world record at these championships. I wanted to get out and go. I did what I had to do.”
Tobi Amusan is Nigeria’s first ever World Championship gold medal winner!
