Scunthorpe United of England youngster, Olufela Olomola is at the centre of an issue about racism at the lower division curbside, as a fan ys alleged to have derided the Nigerian-born lad on social media, megasportsarena.com reports.
In reaction to the development, the club have launched an investigation, as they intend to get to the root of what they described as ‘disgusting comments’ directed at Olomola through an online interactive channel.
Scunthorpe’s move comes after The Iron’s young forward shared a screenshot of the offensive post that contained a reference to the colour of Olomola’s skin, while throwing up a debate on whether the 22-year-old lad should be given a chance of finally getting a chance in the main team at Sands Venue Stadium, after spending last season on loan at Carlisle United.
An official statement by the club also noted that the same person suggested in the post that the club’s fans and other spectators will boo very loudly if Scunthorpe players take a knee when the team gets back into return to action; thereby serving a hint that there should be discontent with the now common pre-match gesture widely associated with Black Lives Matter movement.
The club’s statement read: “Scunthorpe United has been made aware of comments made on social media this weekend. We stand with Olufela Olomola and anybody who has to suffer racism in any shape or form. They aren’t views shared by the club, and we will investigate and deal with those responsible. There is no excuse or justification for this disgusting behaviour.”
