UD Huesca of Spain midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali will be among the last set of players set to arrive at the Super Eagles’ camp in Abuja, as he is expected on Tuesday, megasportsarena.com reports.
That would be barely 24 hours before the team’s scheduled flight out to Yaounde, Cameroon for the impending Africa Cup of Nations, which opens next Sunday.
Nigeria’s first game will be on January 11 against seven-time winners, ahead of which Nwakali will aim to stage a bold claim for a starting spot in the team.
He will hope to impress Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, whose appointment orchestrated the lad’s inclusion in the final squad of 28 players, as he had not been listed by sacked Franco-German tactician, Gernot Rohr.
It is now a case of second time lucky for the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cu[p-winning captain, as he is billed to storm the senior camp early on Tuesday, following which he is expected to participate in the penultimate workout in Abuja, before Wednesday’s departure to Yaoundé.
Nwakali, whose senior debut was in an exhibition match against Atletico Madrid of Spain in Port Harcourt, was in Huesca’s side beaten 1-0 by Girona this past Sunday in a Spanish Segunda Liga fixture and he played all 90 minutes for the fourth consecutive game in the lower division.
