Leicester City of England have found out that they will have o pay PSV Eindhoven of Netherlands a princely sum of £30m if they are to snatch the Dutch Eredivisie club’s Nigerian-born dazzler, Nonso Madueke.
The Foxes have a thought of continuing their romance with Nigerian players, which dates back to the days of Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Daniel Chima Uchechi at King Power Stadium, as well as with Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi and Kelechi ‘Kelz’ Iheanacho currently on their cards.
However, megasportsarena.com gathered that the desire of Brendan Rodgers’ squad to snatch Madueke is facing a brick wall at PSV, where the top hierarchy insists the youngster has to remain in their long term plans.
Despite PSV’s stand, though, updated reports out of Queensland indicate that Leicester are not giving up in their bid to get Madueke.
British tabloid, Daily Mail added that Leicester, who have already signed Zambian striker Patson Daka as well as Boubakary Soumare, Ryan Bertrand and Jannik Vestergaard this summer, are retaining their longstanding interest in Madueke.
A leading journalist, Alan Nixon further disclosed that The Foxes have been very active in their pursuit of Madueke over the past few weeks, but they will have to step up their efforts, as PSV want a fee in the region of £30 million for the winger’s signature.
In the same manner, PSV’s coach, Roger Schmidt is confident that Madueke will remain at the club next season amid speculation linking him with a move to Leicester, while Manchester City are also said to be keen on signing him this summer.
The 19-year-old Madueke, a product of the academy at Tottenham Hotspur of England, made only 10 starts from a possible 44 in all competitions, but Schmidt hinted that he wants to create space for the winger in the starting line-up this season.
Schmidt has now marshaled a plan to convince the England under-21 international to stay by citing the development of Mason Mount and Phil Foden at Chelsea and Manchester City respectively, where they rose through the ranks before establishing themselves as regulars.
Schmidt expatiated: “Noni is just such a player who can go through this development. He has the potential, but now he also needs the experience.
“He has a lot of potential playing football and mentally, but here we offer him the space to continue his development. We talk to him a lot. Not necessarily about the rumors. It is clear to me that he will stay.”
