Cameroon are bound to field a Nigerian-born goalkeeper in action against the Super Eagles on Friday, as Simon Omossola has gained pole position to man the posts during the game in Vienna, Austria, following the absence of the country’s three leading shot-stoppers, megasportsarena.com gathered.
Registered officially as Medjo Simon Loti Omossola, born to a Nigerian father on May 5, 1998 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, the new lad to watch first starred for Coton Sport in his adopted country’s domestic league and got his international debut in a 2–1 friendly win over Zambia on June 9, 2019.
Information on offer from The Indomitable Lions’ camp revealed that Simon is one of two options now available to Cameroon’s coach, Antonio Conceiçao, as the AS Vita Club of Congo safe hands will compete for the starting spot alongside Devis Epassy from Pas Lamia of Greece.
However, Omossola looks good to get the nod as first choice, heading into Friday night’s game at Weiner Neustadt Stadium, after Stoke City of England ‘keeper, Blondy Noukeu bowed out with injury and Deportivo Alavès of Spain’s Fabrice Ondoa is also not available.
Ondoa had been expected to start against the Eagles due to the absence of Ajax Amsterdam of Holland sensation, Andre Onana, but the second choice netminder injured his finger during team training on Tuesday and Cameroon’s medics confirmed that he will sit out Friday’s game.
Indomitable Lions press officer told Camfoot that Ondoa might between both sides on Tuesday, but added: “The goalkeeper of Stoke City sent the doctor of the national team, Professor Ngatchou, a medical certificate declaring him unfit because of back pain.”
