Nigerian athletes will line out for another major track and field competition in Lagos on the 24th of June, megasportsarena.com reports.
This comes hot on the heels of the recent Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) All Comers Meeting and the Nigerian National Championship at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos.
The latest competition was announced by former long jump international, Yusuf Alli, who disclosed that the competition will be staged by Lagos State Athletics Association at Teslim Balogun Stadium.
Alli, who is the meet director, added that competition tagged Lagos Open Athletics Championship will be staged on the strength of arrangements that are already in top gear to have an elite cast of athletes in the one-day meet.
He added that the championship will simultaneously serve as a qualifying window for the Tokyo Olympics as well as a preparatory event for Nigerian athletes that have already qualified for the multi-sports global showpiece.
The field events’ legend revealed further that events to be competed for during the upcoming competition include races in 5,000 meters, 400 meters hurdles, 100 meters, 800 meters, 400 meters and 100 meters.
There would also be quality action in the 4×100 meters open, 4×100 meters open and 4×400 meters mixed relay, long jump, high jump, triple jump, shot put as well as 4×400 and 4×100 secondary schools’ relays.
He pointed out that the organisers have also assured that the top three finishers in each event will receive prizes for their efforts during what will be the first of its kind track and field championship staged by the association.
