Newcastle United are reportedly prepared to go head-to-head with Bayern Munich in the race for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen enjoyed a successful 2021/22 campaign, with 24 goal contributions from 32 games across Serie A and Europa League. The 23-year-old has attracted interest from across Europe, with Liverpool, Man Utd, and Arsenal all linked in the past. However, the reported price tag attached to his name has put a number of clubs off the signing this summer.
According to Calciomercato, Osimhen will cost clubs a minimum of £86m-£95m if they wish to sign him in the upcoming window.
This fee is believed to be too much for a number of potential suitors, with Arsenal dropping out of the race. However, both Newcastle United and Bayern Munich are still interested in the deal.
The report adds that Newcastle United are preparing a major offer that could be within this price range. The German giants are also believed to be considering the same offer.
Osimhen changed agents last year, and it was reported then that he was keen on a move to England.
However, the Nigerian forward is contracted with Napoli until 2025. With president Aurelio De Laurentiis believing Osimhen is yet to reach his potential, the Italian outfit will not be desperate to sell.
With a number of the top six clubs interested, if Newcastle were to beat them to a deal it would prove they aim to compete at the top.
The potential figure required to sign him would easily break the club-record fee. But the owners have already proven they are prepared to invest into the club.
