FC Nantes of France winger, Moses Simon has given words of thanks to his teammates in the Super Eagles and the technical crew for helping him win the man of the match award for Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations clash with Sudan, megasportsarena.com reports.
Simon got the award courtesy of his assist and well-taken goal in the Eagles’ 3-1 victory, but the former SK Trencin of Slovakia, KAA Gent of Belgium and Levante of Spain dazzler said it was not achieved through his efforts alone.
Rather than personalise the feat, the dark-skinned lad, who grew up in Kaduna, stated right after he was presented with the award at pitch side in Garoua, Cameroon that he could not have gained the laurel without support from his pals and their coaches.
After three assists across the Eagles’ first two matches in Cameroon, Simon finally opened his AFCON 2021 account when he took the ball down on his chest, kept his balance, picked his spot under the onrushing goalkeeper’s body and hit target after just 36 seconds of the restart.
Simon, who narrowly missed the same award in the Eagles’ opening game against Egypt, due to Kelechi Iheanacho’s lone goal in that game, admitted he was excited with the honour and submitted : “All thanks to the team and the technical staff, we worked really hard for this and I believe the Man of the Match goes to the team.”
