MFM FC ‘In Hot Soup’ As LMC Hammer Crashes On Them

MFM FC are in danger of relegation from the Nigeria Professional Football League following the pandemonium that greeted their home draw with Rangers International last weekend.

Megasportsarena.com reports that the Lagos club, who have not been impressive this season, now have their woes compounded after they were banished to Ijebu-Ode and handed heavy sanctions by the League Management Company for breaching the NPFL Framework & Rules in their Matchday 26 fixture vs Rangers last Sunday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

MFM are currently languishing at the bottom of the NPFL table with 24 points and they look increasingly destined for the drop.

The League organisers handed various punitive measures against them following the chaos that engulfed their match with the Flying Antelopes.

According to a statement from the LMC, ‘MFM supporters & officials encroached onto the field of play & attacked the centre referee’ after the match.

Below are all the charges and sanctions.

MFM also failed to provide & ensure effective security during the game which resulted in breakdown of law & order at the match venue.

MFM further breached the rules as their supporters, players & officials behaved in a way capable of bringing the league into disrepute.

MFM, furthermore, failed to control their players & officials in ensuring they displayed proper conduct in the course of their match vs Rangers.

MFM team manager Geoffrey Aghogi breached the Fair Play rules by going to the hotel of the match officials to harass, threaten & intimidate them, thereby bringing the league to disrepute.

MFM have been fined N1 million for failure to provide general security & also fined another N1 million for encroaching onto the field of play.

A fine of N1 million has also been imposed on MFM for unsporting behaviour of their players, officials & fans.

MFM players Jerry Isaac & Christian Molokwu have been suspended for the next 12 matches for their involvement in the infraction in this first instance.

MFM team manager Geoffrey Aghogi is banned indefinitely from all NPFL-organized activities including matches.

MFM have been ordered to identify the persons involved in the assault of match officials & further show evidence of arrest by the police & prosecution/arraignment in a competent court of law.

The assaulted centre referee will get a compensation of N250,000 & any other additional verifiable medical costs.

MFM will play their next three home matches at the Dina Dipo Stadium in Ijebu-Ode & will only return to their home ground upon LMC receiving a satisfactory report on the prosecution of the persons involved in the alleged assault by the police.

A suspended two-point deduction has been imposed on MFM which will be for a probationary period for the remainder of the season.

MFM have 7 working days to pay all fines & also have 48 hours from the date of the notice to appeal the sanctions.

In another development, Kwara United have also been charged for breaching the NPFL Framework & Rules in their Matchday 26 fixture vs Rivers Utd.

According to the LMC, ‘some supporters of Kwara Utd encroached onto the technical area/field of play, causing disorder & bringing the league to disrepute in the course of the match’.

The Ilorin club have subsequently been fined N1 million for encroachment  onto the field of play & will play their next home match vs 3SC behind closed doors (without fans).

Failure by Kwara Utd to uphold the tenets of fair play might lead to stiffer sanctions as prescribed under the league framework & rules.

Kwara Utd have 7 working days to pay all fines & elect to appeal the sanctions.
