Glasgow Rangers of Scotland defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun has regained full fitness, after a long bout with injury, and he is in line to stage a return against Celtic on Wednesday.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Balogun has been cited in full training with The Gers’ and is well positioned to make the trip across the street in Glasgow to battle their local rivals.
That is much to the delight of Rangers’ coach, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who disclosed that Balogun is in the provisional squad for Wednesday night’s clash at Celtic Park.
It means Balogun is likely to step back into his position that has been occupied by fellow-Nigerian defender, Calvin Bassey during his colleague’s spell on the sidelines.
Balogun, who pulled out of Nigeria’s squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations due to an injury in the back he suffered during a League Cup clash versus Hibernian on November 21, will now aim to make the best of any opportunity he gets in midweek.
This is in contrast with worries of a relapse that emerged after Balogun was omitted from The Gers’ last two matchday squads, but Van Bronckhorst is now exuding confidence over the mulatto stopper, who has entered the last five months of his contract with the club.
Providing an injury update ahead of the Old Firm Derby, van Bronckhorst affirmed with an air of optimism: “Leon is fit so he’s traveling with us. “
