Everton manager Frank Lampard has broken his hand while celebrating Alex Iwobi’s goal in Thursday night’s last minute goal against Newcastle United at Goodison Park.
The Toffees were handed a huge boost in their survival bid as Iwobi netted in the ninth minute of stoppage-time to secure them a 1-0 at Goodison Park.
“I don’t know, I did it in the celebrations for the goal. I think I just connected with something somehow and I realised two minutes later my hand was shaking and going a bit achy – but I’ll take it for the three points,” said the Toffees boss.
Asked how many more broken bones he was prepared to take until the end of the season, he added: “They can take one every game if they want.
“This game is special and it hasn’t felt so special for us in the last few weeks.”
Everton were clinging on for a point following Allan’s controversial 83rd-minute red card – given after an initial booking and VAR check – before 14 minutes of added time were displayed and Iwobi gave them an unbelievable night and three points.
Despite being down to 10 men, Lampard’s men showed heart and fight to battle on and they were rewarded on 99 minutes when substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin teed up Nigerian forward Alex Iwobi to finish past Martin Dubravka.
The late, late drama sparked wild scenes around Goodison. And Lampard – who broke his hand in the celebrations – was full of praise for his players and the Club’s fans for inspiring what could be a pivotal moment in Everton’s season.
