The arrival of Kion Reece Etete from Tottenham Hotspur has been highlighted as a huge benefit for lower division side, Northampton Town, as the club’s coach, Jon Brady believes the Nigerian-born lad possesses an effective attacking threat.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that, with a view that the new arrival will offer Northampton several goals scoring openings in the new season, Brady added that he is already excited with the lad’s arrival from Spurs.
The gaffer added that they aim to get many prospects up front, after signing Etete on a season-long loan, though the 19-year-old striker had earlier agreed a new contract with Spurs until 2023.
Etete, who was born in England to a Nigerian father and English mother, came through the youth team at Notts County and made his senior debut for The Magpies in a group stage match of the EFL Trophy against Newcastle United’s under-21 team on October 9, 2018, as a 76th-minute substitute for fellow youth-team player, Tyreece Kennedy-Williams.
He made his EFL League Two debut on November 3, 2018, replacing Kristian Dennis 73 minutes into a 2–2 draw with Port Vale at Vale Park and, after the game, coach of the side, Harry Kewell said the youngster had been excellent.
In 2019, Etete was on trial at Tottenham, during which he scored twice against West Ham United and, on June 7, 2019, Notts County announced that he had officially joined Spurs, after which he signed a new contract at the start of this month, running until 2023, but he was immediately sent out on loan to Northampton.
Etete, made five substitute appearances for Notts County in the 2018/19 campaign, scored nine goals in 21 games for Tottenham’s under-23 side last season, having joined the London-based English Premier League side from The Magpies in 2019.
Brady is now expecting lots of thrills from Etete, who is The Cobblers’ 12th summer signing following their relegation to League Two last season, as the coach beamed with glee: “His link-up play is very effective and he provides a goal threat himself.”
