New signing at Ross County of England, Joseph Hungbo has been described as a youngster that has ‘a terrific appetite to play at the top level,’ hence the nod he got for a deal, megasportsarena.com reports.
This is the no-holds-barred verdict from the coach at Ross County, Malky Mackay, who disclosed that seeing the quality Hungbo has displayed in recent days spurred him to return to his former club, Watford of England, to sign winger on loan.
The 21-year-old Hungbo, who signed a season-long loan deal on Tuesday, now becomes County’s 10th summer signing and Mackay is already expecting a lot from the lad, who joined Watford from Crystal Palace’s academy and has made eight first-team appearances for The Hornets.
Mackay stressed that he is happy to get Hungbo, who first joined Palace as a nine-year-old and was loaned to Aldershot last season, before which he made 14 senior club appearances since debuting for Watford in the English FA Cup in 2020.
The youngster, who is now aiming for bigger pickings, signed professionally for Palace in 2018 and captained them in his final season at academy level, but the pacy winger was snapped up by Watford at the end of his contract.
He made his senior debut for Watford in an FA Cup match against Tranmere Rovers, followed by further appearances against Manchester United at Old Trafford, during which he also featured for The Hornets in the English Championship and helped them gain promotion to the English Premier League last season.
Hungbo’s new gaffer, who has made nine other summer signings since taking over in Dingwall, is now expecting a lot from the Nigerian-born lad at County, who have a draw and a defeat so far this season, as they prepare to host Glasgow Rangers on Sunday afternoon.
Mackay said ahead of that game i in the Scottish Premiership: “Joseph is an exciting prospect, who has played in the Championship, learned his trade at two Premier League Clubs.
“At 21, he has already shown a terrific appetite to play at the top level of the game. We feel this can be a really good move for him to challenge and prove himself in the SPFL.
“I would like to thank Watford FC for the way in which they conducted the loan deal and our continued relationship.”
