SV Hamburg of Germany emergent central defender, Jonas Benjamin Chimezie David has become the latest lad born in the European country of the Bundesliga to be linked with an invitation to the Super Eagles.

David, who was some years back blocked by Hamburg from honouring an official invitation to Nigeria’s under-20 team, Flying Eagles, uis being touted for a senior cap ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Megasportsarena.com gathered that this is sequel to a report indicating that top shots of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have reignited interest in the 22-year-old centre back, although he is provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth.

He already has a promising future lying ahead of him with Germany, having played competitive matches for their youth national team during the 2019 European U19 Championship qualifiers as well as featuring at U20 level.

However, a German newspaper, Hamburger Morgenpost has disclosed that an official named Baba Abdulrahaman monitored the fast-growing defender in his training sessions last week.

Abdulrahaman, who used to work with NFF’s current assistant technical director and former Flying Eagles’ coach, Paul Osahon Aigbogun, with a view towards prevailing on a Super Eagles’ future for the lad born in Hamburg.

Incidentally, David, who is eligible for an invitation to the Eagles through his Nigerian father as well as Germany by birth and through his mother, caught the eyes of Aigbogun before the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland.

Back then, Aigbogun attempted unsuccessfully to include him in his squad, following which former Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr also contacted David to switch his allegiance to Nigeria.

A report by allnigeriasoccer.com added: “Hamburg higher-ups blocked David from linking up with the Nigeria U20 squad because the player would have missed the final games of the 2018-2019 season due to the tournament.

“This season, the German-Nigerian has been involved in eighteen matches in all competitions for Hamburg, scoring one goal in the DFB Pokal.”
