Everton of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi has admitted he is desperate to make up for the red blunder he committed that contributed largely to Nigeria’s loss to Tunisia at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Iwobi was sent off barely five minutes after getting off the Super Eagles’ bench in Garoua, Cameroon, which led to many fans attacking him on social media.
However, despite being subject to all manner of abuse from aggrieved supporters of the three-time African champions, the former Arsenal star is only submissive and remorseful.
The 25-year-old former England youth international admitted that his error was costly, then vowed to make it up to himself and the fans, because he believes he owes something better than what they got on Sunday night.
It was a sad turnaround of events, as the Eagles were the only side to win all their group games, while the Tunisians lost two of theirs, but Iwobi enthused that better days are lying round the corner for him and the Nigerian squad.
Iwobi posted on social media: “Our fans who shared these moments with us both in Cameroon and across the world deserved more!
“Moments of joy can quickly turn into pain and anguish. As much as it’s a part of football, we came for more.
“The beauty of the game is the next moment of jubilation is never too far round the corner. We will be back to fight for our nation, stronger. We owe it to you, and I owe it to myself.”
