Nigeria’s Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya survived an improved performance from Australia’s Robert Witthaker to retain his belt in the early hours of Sunday.

Megasportsarena.com reports  that, in contrast with how he beat the same opponent by knockout to snatch the belt in 2019, ‘The Last Style Bender’ was dragged all the way this time, as The Octagon moved to Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas, USA.

At the end of what was his fourth consecutive defence of the belt, Adesanya got a second straight win over Whittaker, with the judges scoring it 48-47, 48-47, 49-46 in favour of the New Zealand-based Nigerian.

His latest victory, which came on front of 6,000 fans at UFC 271, took Adesanya’s log to 22-1 and coincided with a new megabucks deal, which he signed some 24 hours before the fight.

Adesanya, who also stated his admiration and respect for UFC legend, Conor McGregor, stated afterwards: “I am the real boy, with the big deal “
