Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho has declared that his side can do better this season in the English Premier League once they stay focused and concentrate better on each game, megasportsarena.com reports.
While taking stock of the past season, in which The Foxes failed to make the top-four on the EPL’s final table, but won the English FA Cup, Iheanacho is of a view that they can do better this time out.
However, the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup moist valuable player, who has previously starred for Columbus Crew of USA and Manchester City of England, admitted that only hard work can make things happen for his side.
The 24-year-old left-footer went on to speak about his personal plans for the incoming season, with a confession that his target is to score more goals that will help his side get a chain of victories from their impending matches.
The product of Taye Football Academy of Owerri added that he will work harder in order to improve on his feats of last season, when he achieved his most productive campaign as a professional player, with a haul of 19 goals in all competitions.
He added that he is happy to rejoin his teammates, among who is Super Eagles’ pal, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi, as they all assembled for pre-season training in Seagrave.
Iheanacho will now commence the batle to upstage Jamie Vardy in The Foxes’ coach, Brendan Rodgers’ pecking order of strikers, espcially with fresh competition coming with the rival of Patson Daka from Red Bull Salzburg of Austria.
The test of his credentials will commence when The Foxes face Burton Albion, Wycombe Wanderers and Queens Park Rangers in pre-season matches before battling Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 7.
It is now up to Iheanacho to take one step further than what he achieved last season as Leicester’s leading scorer, with 19 goals in all competitions last season.
Iheanacho, who is fondly called ‘Kelz’ and ‘Seniorman’ by his teammates, told LCFC TV: “This season, we really need do more and focus on our games. I have a good feeling that, this season, it might fall for us and we’ll get what we want.
“We need to concentrate and focus on the games one after the other and hopefully we’ll get there in the end. I pray for more goals, but most importantly, more wins and more points.
“Now, we need to concentrate on the work that we have ahead. We just need to focus and get through the pre-season and focus on the new season.
“Of course, it’s good to be back with this special group of lads. We’re like a family. We’re all friends, so it’s always good to be back with everybody.
“We’re hoping we’ll be back fit and strong so we can work together again. I’m happy, coming back here, and hopefully we’ll enjoy it and even enjoying the running as well!”
