Players from Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) have received another opportunity to exhibit their talent in United States of America, as they are billed to battle Ghana’s domestic squad in the coming months.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that this will mark a return to God’s Own Country, where the home-based lads played against Mexico in an international friendly earlier this month, but the latest arrangement will see them involved in a mini-competition.
It would be an opportunity for the side captained by Enyimba of ba winger, Anayo Iwuala to right the wrongs that occurred in their 4-0 loss to El Tri at Los Angeles Coliseum, where the squad failed to blend after being hastily called to camp.
Uncertainty over the coach to handle he squad also affected concentration, as Gernot Rohr showed initial reluctance to be part of the crew, while Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical director, Augustine Eguavoen was denied US entry visa, leaving his assistant, Paul Osahon Aigbogun to step in temporarily.
At that time, the NFF declared that the match, which had initially appeared to be for the Super Eagles’ main team, was used to kick-start preparations of the home lads for the next Championship of African Nations (CHAN), and that plan now appears heading for a second phase.
A report by SCORENigeria.com alluded as much, noting that: “The CHAN Eagles will renew their rivalry with perennial rivals Ghana at a 4-Nation tournament in USA in October.
“The team of players from the domestic league will get another chance to prove themselves in the USA after they were battered by Mexico 4-0 in Los Angeles in a friendly recently.
“Ghana will be one of the teams proposed for this invitational tournament. The CHAN Eagles reached the final of the African championship in Morocco in 2018, but failed to qualify for the tournament last year.”
