Aberdeen of Scotland are lending support to their Nigerian-born midfielder, Funsho Ojo, who has been charged with assault on a spectator during his side’s recent game in the Scottish Premiership, megasportsarena.com reports.
While officials of the league’s governing body are ready to slam a ban on the former Liverpool of England youth team player, his club’s top brass are rooting right behind him in pursuing his innocence.
This much has been offered in a report that indicated how The Dons are rooting for Ojo, despite live television catching him having a spat at a corporate hospitality guest who gained access to restricted area of stadium.
Rather than slam Ojo for stepping beyond the pitch to take on the instigator, Aberdeen confirmed that they are offering its full support to their player, who they say fell victim to circumstances not of his own making.
This comes after Ojo was charged in connection with an alleged assault on a supporter following his team’s 1-0 defeat at Dundee United on November 20.
In response to the charge, Aberdeen pledged full support to the 30-year-old Nigerian-born Belgium international, who they vouched for a well disciplined international player.
The Dons’ statement read: “The club is aware of the latest developments regarding an incident involving our player, Funso Ojo, and a corporate hospitality guest.
“(The Guest) gained unauthorised access to what is designated as a secure and restricted area of Tannadice Park after our match against Dundee United on Saturday November 20.
“Frustratingly, we are not able to provide any further detail on the incident as this is now a matter for the Procurator Fiscal.
“The club is, however, offering its full support to Funso, who has fallen victim to circumstances not of his making.”
