Former Super Eagles’ captain, Nwankwo Kanu and an erstwhile key midfielder in the team, John Ugochukwu Ogu have both reached out with comforting words of consolation to the squad’s current set of players, following their inability to hold a 4-0 lead against Sierra Leone.
In the wake of the highly embarrassing match, which saw the Eagles allow The Leone Stars storm back to record a shock 4-4 draw at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City on Friday, Kanu and Ogu have both declared that the Nigerian side will get a better result in the second leg.
Megasportsarena.com can report that ‘Papilo’ and ‘Suker’ stated in separate posts on social media that they believe the Eagles will recover fast and pull their acts together in order to get their own pound of flesh against the Sierra Leoneans on Tuesday.
Their comforting words came amidst reports that the Eagles had already returned to training in Benin City, as they step up their efforts for redemption before making the trip to Freetown on Monday aboard a chartered flight provided by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
While Kanu admitted he was surprised by the draw in Benin, Ogu declared that he believes the Eagles will do better in Freetown and the towering midfielder, who is currently without a club after leaving Al-Wadah of Saudi Arabia earlier in the year, urged his colleague to repeat the form they showed in the first half of Friday’s first leg.
Ogu tweeted: “I enjoyed the first half of the game. We played with great intensity and discipline. Super Eagles, I trust the game in Freetown will be much better. We Meuveee!!!!;” few minutes before the NFF’s media united posted: “Back to work ahead of next game in Freetown. #SLENGA #SoarSuperEagles #Team9jaStrong.”
Kanu also posted in the same vein, adding: “Well done boys not the result we wanted 4-4 but that’s football we learn and move on. We get ready for the second match and put all right. Wish you all the best #supereagles #allthebest #positivevibesonly #thankgod #africa #nigeria @thenffofficial #winning.”
