A cross-section of backroom staff in the Nigerian national team, Super Eagles, have expressed high levels of excitement over the cordial and vibrant atmosphere exuding through the squad’s base camp in Garoua, Cameroon, megasportsarena.com reports.
With the Eagles having got off to the best possible start at the Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 victory over eternal favourites, Egypt on Tuesday, many observers are of a view that the mood in camp is at its highest possible best.
That is the same sentiment being bandied by members of the Eagles’ staff, who attributed the new lease of life swirling through the camp to the open-door policy being employed by the interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen.
They are also unanimous that the breath of fresh air in camp, in which democracy, liberty and open communication have been instituted to huge positive appeal, with everyone being made to feel at home and sharing in a part of all activities.
A member of the staff disclosed gleefully: “Coach Eguavoen has insisted that everyone must communicate; they must say their mind at all times.
“He speaks to each and every player like he’s their uncle and notes and deals with their challenges. He does not discriminate.
“The camp is so interesting and is once more like a family setting. Everyone is like another’s brother. The spirit is high and I believe our team will go far in this competition.”
