D’Tigress claimed a famous first ever win against France with a gripping 67-65  comeback success to qualify for the 2022 FIBA Women World Cup.

Megasportsarena.com reports that the Nigerians were down by 20 points after the opening exchanges (11-31), the Nigerian girls gradually reeled France back in, helped by an amazing half-court buzzer-beater at the end of the third period by Promise Amukamara.

Nigeria then took the lead midway through the last quarter to set up a dramatic conclusion. And, in what proved to be a compelling roller-coaster finish, both nations could have taken victory, but it was D’Tigress of Nigeria who got it done.

They were mainly inspired by Victoria Macaulay, who showed out with 19 points, 5 steals, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, while France were punished by a massive 25 turnovers.

Oderah Chidom also contributed 13pts, 5 assists and 6 rebounds to avenge the 2020 Olympics and 2018 FIBA World Cup defeats.

Promise Amukamara and Adaora Elonu added 10pts each to seal a victory for the team.

Second placed Nigeria will face Mali at noon tomorrow (Saturday) while France will hope to bounce back when they meet China, both teams already qualified.

Mali and Nigeria will vie for the remaining ticket in the group. D’Tigress will qualify with a win against their fellow West Africans. They will also qualify if they lose by 6 or less points if France beats China on Sunday.
