Samuel Chukwueze scored his first La Liga goal of the year in Villarreal’s 2-1 loss to Deportivo Alaves on Saturday, Megasportsarena.com reports.
It was also his third league goal of the season and his first league goal since scoring in a 3-1 away win against Real Sociedad on 18 December, 2021, which has taken his tally to seven in all competitions.
Alaves took the lead in the 4th minute through Victor Laguardia and Gonzalo Escalante doubled the lead in the 31st minute.
Samuel Chukwueze scored the Yellow Submarines only goal after the restart but it counted for nothing as they lost the match.
The defeat leaves Villarreal in seventh place on 52 points in the Spanish La Liga table, just three points adrift of a European qualification spot.
Unai Emery’s men will now shift focus to Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final reverse fixture against Liverpool, where they need to score three unreplied goals to make it to the final.
