Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze has received a goodwill message from his Spanish LaLiga club, following his successful surgery in Barcelona, megasportsarena.com reports.
The surgical operation that was confirmed in an official statement by The Yellow Submarine comes is the second for Chukwueze this year, as he Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and Africa Cup of Nations 2019 bronze winner ha earlier received similar attention in Germany.
Back in February, he aggravated his initial injury during The Yellow Submarine’s 4-0 triumph at Celta Vigo in a Spanish top-flight game, during which he replaced French midfielder, Etienne Capoue in the 66th minute, and he went on to miss fixtures against Tenerife, Granada, Huesca, Girona, Real Sociedad and Levante.
Villarreal disclosed further in their statement about Chukwueze that the 22-year-old product of Diamond Football Academy of Umuahia got injured in a UEFA Europa League second leg semi-final clash away to Arsenal of England earlier this month.
Chukwueze did put up a spirited battle to overcome the blight, as he returned to training ahead of the Europa League final against Manchester United of England, but failed to prove his fitness before the game and was eventually sidelined, as his team went on to win the game in Gdansk, Poland via penalties, after a 1-1 end to extra time.
The operation was carried out by famous surgeon Doctor Ramón Cugat, who has been dubbed the ‘Messi of Medicine’ and has treated Watford of England striker, Isaac Success as well as Udinese of Italy, Stefano Chuka Okaka in the past.
The left-footed dazzler, who scored five goals and provided eight assists in 40 matches for Villarreal this season, is now rated doubtful for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers in September, which could also put his start to next season in LaLga on a tight rope.
He will now aim for quick recovery ahead of pre-season training, for which he has received a goodwill message laced with get-well-quick words of encouragement from his club, which stated: “Villarreal footballer Samu Chukwueze has undergone surgery on his quadriceps in his left leg.
“He was operated on at the Hospital Quirónsalud in Barcelona. The winger picked up an injury during the second leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-finals against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on 6th May.
“The Nigerian player tried everything possible to accelerate the recovery process to attempt to be available for the final of that competition, in Gdansk. A few days before the game against Manchester United, Chukwueze once more felt problems in that area.
“The club’s medical decided that the best option for him would be surgery. Villarreal CF would like to wish the forward a quick and successful recovery. Get well soon, Samu!”
