Glasgow Rangers of Scotland left-back, Calvin Bassey Ighegbulam is set to return to action for The Gers this Thursday against Sporting Braga of Portugal in the UEFA Europa League, megasportsarena.com reports.
This is sequel to a declaration by Rangers’ coach, Giovanni van Bronckhorst that Bassey is one of two players that have been declared available by the club’s medical crew for the quarter-final, second leg clash at Ibrox Stadium.
This is in contrast with concern that was raised last weekend when, for the first time since August 29, 2021, Bassey was omitted from Rangers’ squad for a Scottish Premiership game.
In his absence, Rangers thrashed St Mirren 4-0, following which Van Bronckhorst explained that Bassey had only been rested because the technical crew had been keeping an eye on Thursday’s match against Braga.
The 22-year-old former Leicester City of England youth team player is now set to return to the squad alongside his Super Eagles’ pals, Joe Aribo and Leon Aderemi Balogun.
That would be another milestone outing for Bassey, who has gone the distance in each of The Gers’ last seven matches in this season’s Europa League.
He was one of the standout players in a 1-0 loss to Braga during the first leg in Portugal six days ago and, after sitting out last weekend’s game away to St Mirren along with Ryan Jack, Van Bronckhorst stated: “Both are available.”
