Glasgow Rangers of Scotland trio, Joe Aribo, Leon Aderemi Balogun and Calvin Bassey Ighegbulam have received the riot act from their coach, Giovanni van Bronckhorst ahead of this weekend’s clash with local rivals, Celtic.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Aribo and Bassey are fresh from their exertions in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals, but they will now have to turn their attention on the Old Firm derby.
The Super Eagles’ trio and their teammates have been buoyed by their coach’s verdict that The Gers can beat Celtic in their last derby of the season to keep their Scottish Premiership title hopes alive.
However, with Balogun haven missed out on action during Thursday’s continental fixture, the centre back is again in doubt for this weekend’s clash, as GvB admitted he does not know which of his players will have available for the clash.
Speaking against the backdrop of Rangers’ 1-0 loss away to RB Leipzig of Germany in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final, van Bronckhorst acknowledged that the attention now returns to domestic duties.
Aribo, Bassey and Balogun will now weigh their options, after their coach stressed that they need to stay focused on the game away to Celtic on Sunday, knowing that victory for their rivals will effectively return the title to Parkhead.
In buttressing his point, van Bronckhorst pointed out that their focus must be fully switched on trying to beat Celtic to keep their Scottish title hopes alive, while they put to the background thoughts about the Europa League.
The Dutch soccer tactician added: “We will do our recovery session and make our plans for Sunday, it is still too early to tell who will play or not.
“My objective is to have my players well prepared mentally and physically.
“I know my players will do everything on Sunday to get a good result, this is what they have continued to do through a hectic schedule.
“Our focus is now on Celtic, we will recover and prepare for the game on Sunday. The belief is there, we will go there to get a good result.”
