Aston Villa Sent Transfer Warning As £25m Transfer Battle Set To Commence

Aston Villa will have to cough up around £25million for Calvin Bassey or risk missing out on the Nigerian defender, according to former Rangers captain Craig Moore.

Bassey has been outstanding at Rangers since joining the club under Steven Gerrard in 2020 from Leicester City for £200,000, making 65 appearances for the Gers.

The Super Eagles left-back has helped the club to the Scottish Premier League title and Scottish Cup since his arrival and has attracted interest from around Europe.

His performances in Scotland, that helped Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side reach the Europa League final, has saw him heavily linked with a move to Villa Park for a reunion with Gerrard this summer. Villa are searching for a left-sided defender to provide competition for Lucas Digne for next season, with Bassey’s versatility to play in the centre of defence as well as left-back makes him the perfect option.

Megasportsarena.com previously reported that the Scottish club have slapped a £25million price tag on their man and Moore has sent a warning to Gerrard about getting the deal done sooner rather than later with interest elsewhere growing across Europe. He told Go Radio (via Football Scotland): “I think that people are just going to continually be banging on Rangers door, such was the season that he had.

“He is going to go on to bigger and better things, in terms of finance at some point.

“Personally, I would love to see all the best players at Rangers for as long as possible. Realistically, if someone pays £25 million for him he won’t be here, but you need to get to that level.

“Otherwise he is going to be a Rangers player and have another sensational season.”
