Nigeria’s world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua has received a scathing verbal challenge from America’s Deontay Wilder, who insists he is the best boxer in their class, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although Wilder lost his belt to another British fighter, Tyson Fury and needs to win it back in their third bout next month, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ believes he is on course to take Joshua’s three belts in a megabucks unification tussle.
Joshua still holds four belts and desires an all-British face-off with Fury, but he may redirect his thoughts after Wilder accused him of playing hard to get and declared that the London 2012 Olympic Games gold medalist is making up excuses to prevent a clash between them.
The American went on to declare emphatically that he will eventually get a unification fight with ‘AJ’ and predicted that he would then knock out the Nigerian-born Briton in devastating fashion.
‘The Bronze Bomber’ also admitted that he still wants an undisputed world title clash against Joshua, but admitted he will first have to regain the World Boxing Council (WBC) belt in a trilogy fight with Fury in Las Vegas on July 24.
On his part, Joshua is set to defend his World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) titles against mandatory challenger, Oleksandr Usyk of Ukraine this September at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London.
Wilder has now issued an affirmative blast that his eyes are fully set on taking Joshua’s belts and further told Sky Sports: “Most definitely, hands down. Without no excuses, no mandatories, nothing in the way.”
