Enyimba of Aba winger, Anayo Iwuala has admitted he is using his outings with the Super Eagles as a stepping stone to boost his football career, as he sets sight on a ‘definite’ breakthrough in Europe, megasportsarena.com reports.
Iwuala stated as much after captaining a third string Super Eagles’ squad in Sunday’s international friendly against Mexico, which he said was a bright experience for him and other players from clubs in Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The fast-rising forward, who has now featured in the Eagles’ last five matches, got his first start for Nigeria against Mexico, after getting off the bench versus Benin Republic, Lesotho and twice against Cameroon.
Mexico ran riot over the NPFL stars at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in California, USA, but Iwuala stressed that he was happy with the opportunity of playing against the vastly-experienced CONCACAF champions.
He and the home-based lads made history by playing in front of the largest crowd to attend a sporting event in Southern California since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, as more than 53,000 spectators gathered in the stands.
Iwuala, however, denied any complexes on account of the huge crowd that witnessed the game, but posited: “We were very happy to have this great opportunity but unluckily for us it ended this way.
“It was a great experience for us, a very big experience for the local players. We want to show our quality.
“Definitely the hope is to take it further to Europe, to get more opportunity and to get more exposed, to work ahead for a greater task.”
