Everton of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi may eventually be forced to leave The Toffees, if the words of a former striker in the English Premier League club are anything to believe, megasportsarena.com reports.
With Iwobi yet to replicate the form that was seen of him during his days with Arsenal, a former Everton striker, Marcus Bent has warned that the 25-year-old Super Eagles’ star might be forced out of Goodison Park, though he still has three years to run on his current contract.
Iwobi started on the bench in Everton’s opening Premier League match of the season versus Southampton, but he made an impact after his introduction by providing the assist for his team’s second goal netted by Abdoulaye Doucouré.
However, Bent insists that Iwobi’s future at Goodison Park is shaky as he opined that The Toffees are looking at offloading him before the close of this summer’s transfer window.
This comes at a point many English Premier League watchers agree that the Eagles’ playmaker’s form has been hot and cold since his big money move to the Merseyside club in the summer of 2019.
Iwobi became the most expensive Nigerian player in history after his move from Arsenal to Everton for a fee in the region of 35 million pounds, before the record was surpassed by Victor Osimhen last summer.
Since then, though, a scorecard of only four goals and four assists in 66 appearances has not been deemed good enough from Iwobi, such that speculation is lingering over his chances of staying linger at Everton, even as he has been linked with Atalanta of Italy this month.
That line of though he now been buttressed by Bent, who is of a view that Iwobi is surplus to requirements at Goodison Park and he will soon be sold by Everton in order to reduce their wage bill.
Bent has now told FootballFancast: “Everton are talking about getting rid of him. They want to get him off the wage bill, he’s a good player, but hasn’t had the time to play or show his quality, but I think they want to move him on.”
